Mohsen Namjoo and Ensemble /  29 October 2013

Mohsen Namjoo, one of the most controversial contemporary Iranian singer/ songwriters, hailed as “Iran’s Bob Dylan” by the New York Times, will perform with his band in Milan at Teatro Martinitt on Tuesday 29 October 2013.After a successful solo concert in 2012, Mohsen Namjoo will be back in Europe this autumn to promote his new album, Thirteen/Eight, with his band. Mohsen Namjoo has performed internationally in the US, Canada, England, France, Italy, Germany. In 2009, he had concerts in Milan (Sala Verdi, Conservatorio di Milano) and Vencie both organized and promoted by Fabrica, creative laboratory ofBenetton. He has been described by the international press as a “Maverick” and “Avante Gard” for his ability to fuse traditional Persian and folk music with jazz, rock and roll and blues, and for using his voice as an instrument in unconventional ways. The lyrics of his songs just like his music are also odd, unusual, and innovative combination of Persian classical poems, by poets such as Hafez, Rumi, Saadi, his own lyrics, and contemporary poems. Mohsen Namjoo has garnered large numbers of fans and critics alike in Iran and abroad. He is a visionary artist who speaks for, and touches the souls of today’s youth. Seamlessly blending the classical with the Modern, the ancient with the current. Mohsen Namjoo is a musical maverick, a non-conformist who not only takes on the centuries old traditions of Persian music, but also his own approach to composition, style and sound.

Iranian Jazz Night / April 6th, 2013 / Conservatorio di Milano

Paris based Jazz Pianist Arshid Azarine, well-known percussionist Habib Meftah Boushehri who is also a collaborator of Niyaz band and Shanbezadeh ensemble, vocalist and songwriter Golnar Shahyar (based in Vienna) and famous Jazz Guitarist and Composer Mahan Mirarab (based in Vienna) are invited to perform their art in Milan that night. This concert will be organized in Milan Conservatory’s Sala Puccini with capacity of 400 guests.

This event will be one of the first occasions in which Arshid and Habib will share the same stage with Vienna based Duo, Mahan and Golnar for a whole concert.

The reason why among various possible choices, Milan Conservatory was nominated as the most appropriate location to host this particular event is that this venue is one of the most important musical poles of Milan that appeals culturally conscious spectators by producing high quality events and concerts. We also took this fact into consideration that Milan Conservatory is one of the most important musical institutions of Italy and is home to well-known music professionals and potential future musicians who appreciate such qualified events.

Sormeh Band, 9th December 2012

Golnar Shahyar (voc, Percussion) and Mona Matbou Riahi (Clarinet, voc) from Iran as well as Jelena Popržan (Viola, Voc, Loops, Setar) from Serbia have started a promising trio together in which - with an exiting mix from Oriental to Balkan music – have found their cosmopolitan compromises in Jewish music tradition as well as self arranged pieces zested with improvisational parts. Iranian, Jewish, Armenian, Bulgarian, Greek and Sephardic songs, instrumental klezmer and Balkan sparks as well as harmonized lyrics, timeless resembling contemporary Chansons and original compositions, remove the geographical and mental borders. Elegant and mysterious like an oriental collyrium is nothing but the Persian word “Sormeh”.
